The Makings of this Woman - Reviews

"This is a remarkable collection. It provoked a lot of speculation and curiosity - many of the poems made me wonder about the various ages and stages at which Myrna penned when she wrote each piece. I know that not every poem has a particular life story attached to it (my own personal poetry collection, a gathering of trope-ridden tripe certainly did not), but I would have loved to have known more about the background to each of the pieces.

Which is precisely what a decent corpus of poems should evoke.

As a male emerging from an era of privilege, this work helped me better identify with what it means for a female writer having to work to gain recognition whilst continuing to refine her craft, and at the same time eliciting a thirst for a deeper understanding for the tension, the tevents and the emotions that give the work its vigour, vibrancy and colour.

Myrna exhibits a deep understanding of the road travelled by the tortured artist, and yet at the same time, her talent is immediately obvious - notwithstanding the constraints of the medium, her thoughts are expressed clearly and openly. An excellent and edifying read!" - Jake K -Author of The Amorous Adventures of Jake Karter

"This is a beautiful and raw collection of the deepest thoughts and feelings of one girl, one woman, but these poems will resonate with everyone. You will feel these poems - you won’t just read them. Buy this book for your daughter, your grandmother, your best friend. And make sure you buy yourself a copy too." - Tami S (Arc Reader)

The Sound of Crickets - Reviews

“An unflinching and intimate story of love, loss, and redemption. Mercy draws Hollynd and Landry with assurance and tenderness. THE SOUND OF CRICKETS is not just a book that has us rooting for her two young lovers, but a beautifully-presented case for the power of hope against cynicism. A deeply touching novel.”  - Amy Mason Doans - author of Lady Sunshine and The Summer List

"I read to escape reality and I'll admit when a book touches too close to real life, it typically turns me off. However, ML Mercy managed to draw me into a workd, not too far from reality and kept me wanting more! The hope, heartbreak, and everything inbetween, kept me on the edge of my seat dying to know the outcome. The Sound of Crickets is a beautiful story of pain and redemption, and I for one have a new must read author!" - Kat B (Arc reader)

"The Sound of Crickets is a love story that begs to be told and one that leave you wanting more from ML Mercy. The intensity of Landry and Hollynd's chemistry is felt through the pages. As you devour their story, you will take an unpredictable journey. You will find yourself hoping all the pieces fall the way they should and then torn with every twist and turn Mercy takes you on. It is a roller coaster worth the ride!" -Xander A (Arc Reader)

"We all deserve a love that makes us willing to give up everything else to keep it. The way Hollynd and Landry connect is both intense and scary and it is spectacular to be along for the journey.

Hollynd and Landry are both broken. Hollynd is still processing trauma and, with help from her family, she is has started to become her old self again. Landry was born into a family that uses him more as clout then being a loved one. With that, Landry finds unhealthy ways to cope.

The connection between the two is strong right off the bat and it just intensifies as their story goes on. Their banter and interactions are everywhere from sweet to chaotic. Each interaction had me in my feelings from start to finish. My mouth was left agape in some scenes from shock. Tears were threatening to soak my cheeks as my heart was breaking. Some moments my Kindle was dangerously close to being thrown across the room. Just a fair warning if you love tatted bad boys that are broken and only exist in books, lock up your heart and give the key to someone that you trust until you are ready to use it again like a functioning adult. "An enjoyable read! “The Sound of Crickets” had me turning page after page late into the night. It is a spirited college romance filled with scenes of passionate intimacy and authentic nuances and challenges associated with young adulthood. It is emotional, heartfelt, well-written, and articulates the journey of two beautiful young lives through nearly a decade." - Jackie B (Arc Reader)
